I built a 17-foot composite kayak. This is what it started as. There is plywood and a straight 2x4 for the strongback, and a good supply of western redcedar.
Here the strongback has been constructed and the strips milled.
The deck has been stripped but not glassed yet.

A layer of epoxy before the fiberglass

There is a retractable skeg to help with weathercocking

The hardware is made of the same carbon fiber used on the coaming and seat

Here we can see the coaming and seat assembly, as well as the sun (behind the seat), moon (right in front of the coaming) and star (intersection of two poplar curves) inlays
The moon is curly maple and black walnut
The sun is farmed lacewood and curly maple
The star (compass rose?) is curly maple and black walnut
